Hi, I’m Leslie.
I’m a working mom of three who writes and illustrates for grown-ups and kids. I’ve been writing for adults for a while, but having kids lit up a new desire to write children’s books of my own.
My journey of writing for children begins with storytime. It started as reading the books on the shelf and evolved into an evening ritual of story time improv with my kids. Inspired by their imagination and creativity, I started writing stories every morning before work to share later that night, and I couldn’t stop! Soon I had notebooks filled with stories.
Now, I’m sharing these stories with the big, wide world. I want to encourage kids to explore their great, big ideas.

In my professional life, I’m a psychologist. I work with young adults now, but I have years of training as a child psychologist. My research on girls, friendships, and loneliness has been published in academic journals, and I’ve presented my research at major conferences.
My writing for grown-ups has been featured on sites like Tiny Buddha, Mind Body Green, Positively Positive, and Purpose Fairy.
When I’m not making up stories and writing, I’m devising kitchen table science experiments and taking magical family photos.
Before I was a psychologist, I studied music. I majored in clarinet performance (and psych) at Vanderbilt University. Back then the opera pit was my favorite place to be.
When I was little, I wanted to be a professional figure skater. I practiced my Tiffany, Martika, and Debbie Gibson routines on roller skates. It was most excellent.
I have a major weakness for soundtracks. If I had more time in the day, you’d probably find me looking up that track on episode 9, season 3 of Pretty Little Liars (not that I watch it or anything….)
